Emerging from the brink of a close encounter with the king snake’s insatiable appetite, this alligator lizard made an astonishing comeback.
Against all odds, this fearless reptile refused to become a mere meal, showcasing a remarkable will to survive by clinging onto the California kingsnake for its life.
These captivating moments were wonderfully captured by naturalist and author Bryan Snyder, situated in Santa Barbara, California. During his early morning stroll in the Santa Ynez Valley, Snyder managed to document these scenes of nature’s resilience and survival instincts.

At the age of 43, Bryan recalled, “The California kingsnake ambushed the alligator lizard, seizing its body. Yet, before it could maneuver the lizard for a head-first swallow, the lizard clung to the snake’s body.”
The influence of social media was instrumental in catapulting these images to worldwide recognition.

According to a Reddit post, the lizard ultimately emerged victorious in the encounter and successfully escaped.
In California’s natural habitat, kingsnakes are known for preying on alligator lizards. However, witnessing such a dramatic encounter is a rare and thrilling spectacle. Truly incredible!
