According to reports, the Parc de Princes team did not pay the salaries for April and May, as well as the bonuses for February, to the 25-year-old forward. The 80 million euros that PSG is holding from Mbappe is also equal to the loyalty fee France paid to the player two years ago.
In 2022, Mbappe committed his future to PSG until 2024 and included a clause to activate an additional year (only Mbappe can activate it)
In the summer of 2023, striker Mbappe informed PSG’s leadership that he wouldn’t extend his contract for an extra year after the 2023/24 season. This decision immediately isolated him within PSG.
Mbappe was excluded from the summer tour in Japan and South Korea. Upon the return of his teammates to France, he was only allowed to train with a group of players likely to leave the club. It wasn’t until the second round of Ligue 1 that Mbappe returned to coach Luis Enrique’s lineup.
In February 2024, Nasser al-Khelaifi paid the French forward the promised loyalty fee of 80 million euros, in an attempt to keep him at PSG, but Mbappe still chose to join Real Madrid despite receiving the chairman’s bonus.
As a result, PSG’s leadership refused to pay Mbappe’s 80 million euro salary from the beginning of 2024. It’s expected that Mbappe will also lose his salary for June – the final months of his contract in France.
Kylian Mbappe is currently focusing on preparing for Euro 2024 with the national team. Immediately after the tournament, he will return to Madrid to train with Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
At Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe has committed his future until 2029. Los Blancos have also added a hefty contract release clause – 1 billion euros – if any club attempts to lure the 25-year-old superstar before the summer of 2029.
