A male jackal experienced a peculiar incident when its vigorous mating session abruptly came to an end, causing it to roll over and lose consciousness for a few minutes.

The hilarious situation occurred in Chobe National Park, Botswana, where a pair of jackals was engaging in mating behavior. However, when the “fun” ceased, the male jackal suddenly rolled over and remained unconscious for a brief period.

It is unclear what exactly happened to the unfortunate jackal. Some experts suggest it may have experienced partial paralysis due to exerting excessive energy. However, the Chobe National Park staff confirmed that shortly after, the jackal returned to its normal state.

Calden Smith, the Tourism Manager at Chobe National Park, captured this moment. He laughed heartily while recording the video, considering it a rather rare occurrence.

“At first, I thought the jackals were trying to retrieve something from the waterhole,” Smith recounted. “After observing the pair for about an hour, it seemed like the male was interested in something else.”

“After they ‘finished,’ the smaller-sized male jackal seemed to reach its climax and suddenly toppled backward. It’s unsure whether this can be considered a successful ending or not,” Smith humorously added.

Smith explained that the male jackal was significantly smaller than the female not only in size but also in social status within the pack.

Jackals are social animals, with females being the dominant individuals and often protected by surrounding male jackals. This is also a way to distinguish between male and female jackals. Additionally, unlike other jackal species, the external genitalia of the male golden jackal closely resemble that of the male.

The strength of jackals lies in their pack living pattern. Therefore, they are not afraid to confront larger predators such as lions or leopards to steal food from their clutches.

Part of the explanation for this behavior is that the jackal’s body is not perfectly suited for hunting like lions or leopards, making it challenging for them to control or kill their prey. They rely on other species to supplement their food supply.

Moreover, jackals possess certain special abilities, such as tracking and taking advantage of scavengers like vultures to determine the location of successful hunts.

With their greedy and audacious nature, sharp teeth, and pack lifestyle, a pack of jackals can easily overpower and kill larger predators such as lions, cheetahs, or large pythons. Consequently, when encountering jackals, other animals often hesitate and retreat to preserve their lives.
