On a riverbank in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, a giant crocodile lies sprawled across the river, blocking the way for a group of lions to cross the river. While the lions were standing motionless and full of anxiety, a strong and brave lioness approached the crocodile.

The lioness stood facing the crocodile, her eyes shining with determination. A dangerous and tense war is about to take place. The lioness jumped up and tried to bite the crocodile’s neck, but the crocodile quickly reacted and fought back. These two giant creatures fight in a battle filled with strength and courage.

In a lightning-fast moment, the lioness found an opportunity and firmly grasped the crocodile’s mouth by placing her front paws on its head. This prevents the crocodile from performing a dead spin, a dangerous maneuver that crocodiles often use to tear apart their prey.

A crocodile blocking a river crossing at the Okavango Delta in Botswana was no match for a lioness protecting her pride. Photographer <a href="http://www.nature-photography.be/">Pia Dierickx</a> managed to capture photos of the lioness grappling with the crocodile so the rest of the pride could cross the river. "The sequence of six pictures of the real action were taken in one second," <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2178290/Motherly-pride-Brave-lioness-takes-deadly-crocodile-allow-cubs-cross-river-safety.html?ICO=most_read_module">Dierickx told the Daily Mail</a>. "Luckily for the lioness the crocodile did not have an opportunity to do the death roll because her mouth was kept closed between the front legs of the lioness." While the lioness was fighting the crocodile, the rest of the lions realized their opportunity and quickly crossed the river safely. The lioness continued to hold the crocodile’s mouth tightly, not allowing it to escape. Both creatures continued this intense struggle, with the lioness constantly punching and biting the crocodile.

Finally, after a fierce fight, the crocodile succumbed and let go of its attempts to fight back. The lioness won and achieved her goal – to protect the lions and ensure the safety of the rest of the herd while crossing the river.

Photographs taken throughout this war capture dramatic and emotional moments. They show the determination and strength of the lioness, as well as the danger and difficulty of the struggle with the giant crocodile. This was an incredible and courageous fight, a testament to the survival and protection of lions in the harsh environment of nature.
