Black bears are the only bear species you will encounter in the eastern United States. They’re much smaller than their counterpart, the infamous grizzly bear, and they’re not nearly as aggressive. That being said, when these bears do attack, they can be quite the deadly predator.
In the clip below, a black bear can be seen chasing down a speedy little rabbit.
The encounter was recently caught on camera in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, where black bears can be seen, unusually grazing on dandelions. Rarely are these bears filmed in the hunt.
While it is rare, these bears do hunt small prey when the opportunity presents itself.

While these bears can be seen unusually chasing down only small prey, do not underestimate this predator. Though it is rare, black bears like this can and do attack people, sometimes fatally. In April 2014, a woman in central Florida was mauled by several black bears in her own garage, and in November 2014, a hiker in New Jersey was attacked and killed by a black bear.
