The complex operation was led by Dr. Gregory Heuer, MD, PhD, in collaboration with plastic surgeon Dr. Jesse Taylor, MD.
Heather and Riley Delaney, the parents of the conjoined twin girls, received the news about their unique pregnancy approximately 11 weeks into 2016.
During that time, it was not yet possible to determine if the twins would be eligible for separation surgery.
On July 24, 2016, the twins were delivered via Caesarean section, 10 weeks before their due date. At birth, they weighed a mere two pounds and one ounce each.
Presently, the twins are under the vigilant care of the medical team and are reported to be recuperating remarkably well.
Heather and Riley eagerly anticipate the upcoming moment when they will finally be able to bring Erin and Abby home to North Carolina.
Heather joyfully expressed, “When we go home, it will be a grand celebration: a warm welcome, baby shower, and their first birthday all rolled into one.”
