While exploring the conservation area in Luangwa Valley, Zambia, photographer Lee Whittham witnessed the terrifying spectacle of a lion and a herd of wildebeest engaged in a fierce prey hunt.
The objective of the lion and the wildebeest herd was to feast upon the carcass of a hippopotamus.
Upon spotting the drifting hippopotamus carcass in the river, the lion swiftly lunged forward to drag the prey to the shore.
The lion delightedly devoured the prey, relishing every bite.
After the lion departed, the wildebeest herd rushed in to scavenge and clean up the remaining scraps of the hippopotamus carcass.
