The large bull bore a discharging wound on his left abdomen, compelling the conservation team to urgently seek intervention for the injured giant.

Due to inclement weather and the bulls perched atop a bushy hill, accessing them proved challenging, requiring helicopter services. Despite the adverse conditions, the bulls were discovered feeding well, showcasing remarkable resilience despite the apparent injury.

Operating within confined space and the urgency for swift action, the wounded bull was precisely darted from the air, taking only ten minutes to rest between two large trees. Undeterred by the uncomfortable working conditions, the veterinary team promptly tended to the wound inflicted by spearing approximately 48 hours prior to intervention.

Dealing with the aftermath of the spear’s impact, the team retrieved fragments of rib cartilage, emphasizing the severity of the injury. Fortunately, the spear’s reach did not extend to vital organs, and no damage to the peritoneal and pleural walls was detected. Careful monitoring accompanied the treatment process, ensuring the bull’s well-being.

The wound underwent meticulous debridement, thorough cleansing with hydrogen peroxide, and disinfection with tincture of iodine. Harnessing the healing properties of green clay, an application was delicately administered to expedite the recovery process. Complementary treatments encompassed the administration of Amoxicillin antibiotics and Flunixin meglumine anti-inflammatory, ensuring comprehensive care for the majestic bull’s well-being.

Efficiently reversing the effects of immobilization was accomplished through the intravenous administration of Diprenorphine hydrochloride. With the meticulous and comprehensive care provided, this resilient bull elephant is anticipated to undergo a full recovery, serving as a testament to the collaborative efforts dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
