The DSWT (David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust) swiftly organized an airlift to transport a veterinarian to the location to attend to Makireti, who was found within the enclosure alongside other elephants.
The immobilization, examination, and treatment process unfolded as follows:A dan-inject dагt, meticulously prepared with 10 milligrams of Etorphine, was administered. Makireti was effortlessly darted within the stockade and gently relocated a short distance. Eventually, she сoɩɩарѕed onto her right side just outside the enclosure, fасіɩіtаtіпɡ further examination and treatment.

The arrowhead was carefully removed and extracted. The wound received meticulous cleansing with a mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide, followed by the application of tincture of iodine. Oxytetracycline spray was applied, and the wound was then covered with green clay. Intravenous administration of long-acting antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications followed.

Makireti’s outlook is bright. She regained consciousness serenely, encircled by her group providing support, poised to resume her journey to recovery under the watchful care of the DSWT team.
