Mohammad Kaleem, a young Indian boy afflicted with gigantism, encountered numerous obstacles in his life due to his unusually large hands. Nonetheless, a revolutionary surgical procedure has opened the door to a typical childhood for him, exemplifying the remarkable impact of contemporary medical advancements and his unyielding determination.
.
Residing in a tiny village in Jharkhand, Kaleem had to withstand relentless bullying and exclusion from both his classmates and schools because of his abnormally large hands. Superstitious neighbors went so far as to brand him as “the offspring of a supernatural being,” subjecting his family to unjust discrimination.
Daily tasks became increasingly difficult for Kaleem as his hands continued to grow. Despite their poverty, his parents sought treatment but couldn’t afford it. Kaleem’s story gained international attention through newspapers, eventually leading to medical assistance.
.
Esteemed surgeon Dr. Raja Sabapathy took the initiative to assist Kaleem. The intricate surgical procedure was designed to diminish the size of his hands without causing harm to the nerves, ultimately allowing him the prospect of regaining full functionality in the future.
Kaleem underwent a succession of complex surgeries on his right hand, followed by a comprehensive physical therapy regimen to facilitate his adjustment to the changes. The promising outcomes have inspired his parents to contemplate surgery for his left hand as well.
The village, once believing Kaleem to be cursed, now sees a brighter future for him. Elderly resident Mr. Amanullah Khan acknowledges the transformative possibilities offered by the surgery, while the local school expresses openness to accepting Kaleem.
