Jupiter, a Colombian lion, rose to prominence during his stay at the renowned Villa Lorena sanctuary. He was saved from a circus where he had endured frequent abuse and had his claws cruelly removed.
Villa Lorena is a unique animal sanctuary dedicated to the rehabilitation and care of numerous abused animals, including the lion named Jupiter. Some of these animals were previously owned by individuals associated with drug trafficking, who were later apprehended.
Ana Julia Torres serves as the guardian of a diverse array of animals at Villa Lorena, including four lions, nine Bengal tigers, jaguars, cougars, a crocodile, a spectacled bear, an ostrich, Jocko the chimpanzee, spider monkeys, and hundreds of brilliantly colored birds. According to Ana Julia, these animals all share a common, unfortunate history: they have endured abuse. Many of them are physically impaired, having lost limbs or eyes, while others grapple with blindness, concentration issues, or other disabilities stemming from their past mistreatment.
Before, Jupiter had completely lost trust in people and had developed a deep fear of human contact. However, this fear gradually dissipated when he came under the compassionate care of Ana Julia.
However, due to reported documentation issues related to her ownership of Jupiter, authorities made the decision to separate the lion from Ana Julia’s care.
Unfortunately, Jupiter’s health took a severe downturn as veterinarians diagnosed him with terminal liver cancer and anemia. He rapidly lost weight and became critically ill. During his final moments, when he had the opportunity to reunite with Ana Julia at the Los Caimanes Zoo, it was discovered that he also suffered from kidney and liver damage, and he had become emaciated.
Jupiter ultimately succumbed to liver cancer in 2020, but his memory continues to live on. Farewell, Jupiter, may you find happiness in heaven!
