On September 22nd, GWARP responded to a distress call regarding an ailing elderly dog. This canine was found tethered, deprived of sustenance and water. Despite GWARP’s extensive experience in animal rescue, the severity of this situation was unprecedented.
Upon examination, it was evident that the dog displayed symptoms of bone cancer, a condition that had been left untreated. The prolonged chaining, combined with a diet consisting of refuse and waste, had contributed to the development of osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer.
Tragically, a distressing reality emerged, confirmed by an eyewitness who reported witnessing the dog facing abusive treatment. The attending veterinarian links the cancer’s origin to severe injuries and subsequent infection due to neglect.
The dog lived a secluded life, shackled by a short metal chain within its yard, limiting movement to a mere two feet.
When GWARP attempted rescue, the owner resisted, asserting ownership rights. Law enforcement was called in, leading to a shift in the owner’s stance after hours of legal discussions and presentation of proper documentation. The owner reluctantly relented, acknowledging that removal required a formal “report.”
Recognizing the urgent need for the dog’s medical assessment and vital blood tests, we conceded to the necessity. Our devoted team also recognized that immediate action encompassed an emergency amputation, supplemented by histological samples of the tissue. The journey to rehabilitation is far from over.
Radiographic images have unveiled the presence of osteosarcoma, a grave manifestation of bone cancer. Encouragingly, the lung examination has detected no metastases, hinting at a glimmer of hope for his survival. Nonetheless, the pace of the tumor’s growth remains alarming, leading to the skin’s gradual rupture. Each passing day sees the tumor’s relentless expansion.
In a therapeutic gesture, Jordan was treated to a prolonged bath, symbolically cleansing away the remnants of his somber history and the negative energy associated with his past owner.
Regrettably, Jordan’s rehabilitation in Azerbaijan is limited, prompting a move to Turkey for a more promising recovery. His departure is imminent, allowing him a brief period to regain strength before relocation.
Upon arriving in Istanbul, Jordan underwent sedation for comprehensive X-rays of his entire body. Following this, the surgical removal of the tumor-afflicted limb was executed with precision and success, free from complications.
Remarkably adaptable, Jordan swiftly acclimated to his altered circumstances after the leg amputation procedure on the third day. His resilience was further evident in the quick resurgence of his appetite, showing a strong affinity for the provided meals.
