The video captures a moment when a brave hippopotamus fearlessly approaches a group of lions who are feasting on their prey, surprising many viewers. The footage was recorded by Solomzi Radebe, a guide at the Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa, and it showcases the daring nature of the hippopotamus.
Radebe explains that he witnessed a hippopotamus suddenly emerge from the nearby swamp where it resides and slowly advance towards the lions, who were enjoying their meal after a successful hunt. Initially, Radebe thought the lion was merely curious about the lion pride and wanted to observe what was happening.
The hippopotamus, however, continued to venture closer, joining the lions in their feast. It appears that the lions, perhaps wanting to avoid any trouble, allowed the uninvited guest to partake in their meal. Only after the hippopotamus had its fill did it depart and return to its familiar swamp.
This encounter is considered rare since lions typically do not allow any other animals to approach their meals and often attack, threaten, or even kill any creature that encroaches while they are eating. It seems that the lions were well-fed and preferred to avoid any conflict, which is why they tolerated the presence of the hippopotamus.
