The carcass of a colossal blue whale, bloated to twice its actual size, has been discovered along the coastal region, infusing the town with an overpowering stench and, more significantly, the potential for the carcass to explode at any moment.
Officials on Newfoundland Island (Canada) explained that the immense bloating of the whale is due to the decomposition process, which has led to the accumulation of methane gas within its body.
Emily Butler, an official from the town of Trout River on Newfoundland Island, stated that the 25-meter-long, 60-ton blue whale had died and washed up near the town’s coastline.
“We’re concerned about the whale because we know methane gas, along with heat, is building up inside the carcass. At a certain point, it could explode,” said Emily.
She mentioned that they had sought assistance from higher-level authorities to address the issue, but this request was declined.
The option of pushing the whale carcass out to sea has also been considered. However, this approach is not feasible as it could pose risks to passing vessels.
While local residents are deeply worried about environmental pollution if the whale carcass detonates, many tourists have shown curiosity.
Since the arrival of the blue whale carcass on the shore, the town of Newfoundland Island has become an attraction for numerous tourists, as this presents a rare opportunity for them to witness a blue whale up close.
