Dr. Gabriela Correia, 33, along with her husband, Gilberto Godoy, doula Joana Nunes, fellow OB/GYN Larissa Gomes, and photographer Deborah Ghelman embarked on this journey inside the car and at a gas station, witnessing the astonishing arrival of a newborn.

Correia and Godoy called for additional support when they realized they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time. At that point, Correia was already 9 centimeters dilated, and when it reached 10 centimeters, she began pushing.

What’s remarkable is that, even in such an urgent situation, everyone in the car remained calm and joyous. There was no fear, only celebration in welcoming a new family member.

Deborah Ghelman, who documented the entire process, expressed her delight that the video is gaining global attention. It has demonstrated the power of women and their ability to take control of their bodies when faced with challenging situations without the need for medical interventions, especially epidurals.

She said, “She is in control of her body and of the baby,” highlighting the empowering nature of this experience.

Another interesting aspect of this story is that Correia and Godoy chose not to know the baby’s gender in advance. Instead of finding out beforehand, they decided to wait and experience the joy of discovering it at the very moment of decision.

The newborn, named Artur, has been welcomed home after being born on October 24. He is healthy and happy, and the family is grateful for their robust support network. This network has been by their side through challenging times, as Correia explained, “I went through the loss of my first child, and it was painful. They were with me and supported me during that process. So, it’s been a long journey I’ve had with them.”
