VIDEO: How Can Pod Of Dolphins Save Humpback Mother & Calf ?

Dolphins are believed to be one of the most gentle creatures on Earth. They are sensitive and friendly, and it is confirmed by many scientists that they exhibit empathy towards members of their species. The following story, however, is a proof that these amazing mammals are able to show compassion for other animals and fish too.

Recently, some of the members of Whale Watch WA stumbled upon an incredible sight that they said took place off the coast of Flinders Bay, on the southwest coast of Western Australia.

Namely, they noticed the female whale named Spirit and her baby being attacked by a group of male whales who wanted to mate with the mother.

Sadly, in order to mate with a whale mother, the males would first kill the babies, and Spirit couldn’t let anything bad happen to her little one.

But as the number of male whales grew bigger, it seemed like there was no way out for this terrified mother and her calf.

Unexpectedly, a pod of dolphins witnessed Spirit struggling to save her baby’s life so they stepped in just in time.

The dolphins surrounded the exhausted Spirit and her baby and prevented the group of male whales to get closer. They even tried to scare them away.

When the mom noticed the boat of the Whale Watch members, she got closer and it looks as though she was asking from them to protect her calf. But at that point, one of the male whales realized the mother got really scared so he chased the rest of the male whales away.

Although this wasn’t the first time for dolphins to step in for other species or humans, the people who witnessed the whole thing regarded it as one of the most amazing sights they’ve ever seen.

Another interesting story that speaks of the kind and generous nature of the dolphins comes from New Zealand.

A group of people were swimming in the water when a shark got closer planning to attack them. Luckily, some dolphins realized the humans were in danger so they quickly started swimming in circles around the people until the shark lost interest and swam away.Rob Howes who was part of the group of swimmers recalls the incident, saying, “They started to herd us up, they pushed all four of us together by doing tight circles around us.”

At first, they were excited as they believed the dolphins were there to play with them, but moments later, they noticed the shark.

Howes added, “I just recoiled. It was only about two meters away from me, the water was crystal clear, and it was as clear as the nose on my face. They had corralled us up to protect us”.

Take a look at the amazing video of the dolphins saving the lives of the mother and the baby whale in the video below.
